Its thought that Frederico opened the 1st tuna canning factory in 1887, by 1906 he had least seven factories in Olhão, growing to 10 factories in the 1920s with at least 40 factories opening in the town, no one quite know exactly how many because they were unlicensed and apparently the record keeping was really poor on and permits were often transferred between companies.

At the end of the 18th century, Olhão was no more than a gathering of fishermen’s huts sprawling onto the beach, but it changed dramatically during the aggressive sieges of Cadiz and Gibraltar when the town’s boatmen took the opportunity to offer their services to defend there villages and the besieged alike.
This historic plaque celebrates the battle of the French army trying to take over the town, but the local fisherman, farmers and wives, children found everything they could from sticks and stones, to farming tools and kitchen cutlery to overcome the French army on the bridge, this was something that was done, with the locals eventually sailing out to Brazil to tell the King it was safe to return back to Olhão.
The tales of the little boy with big black eyes in the streets of Olhão was seen on the dark nights in the quarter of Barreta, it was said the fishermen noticed the little boy, dressed only in a shirt, with big black eyes.
The little boy cried a lot and didn't say anything to the fisher-men, they felt sorry about the child so they took him under there wings, but the little boys weight continued to increase as he walked around, but the little boy was often seen just crying on the ground.
The tales say the boy created a distraction in the town as the fisherman were smuggling goods of the fishing boats at night-time.

Zé would give him a farm he owned at the Relvas site as an engagement gift if the moorish lady showed up to him, and would give him nothing if she didn't.
At midnight, Julião showed up by the windmill. Suddenly, when he was about to leave, he sees a beautiful lady.
